I hold a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in American Studies from Heidelberg University in Germany. My Bachelor's degree is in history from Simon Fraser University in Canada (my homeland). I have extensive experience teaching over the past four years and have taught students at Heidelberg University and at the University of Notre Dame. I also have experience as an English teacher at the Berlitz Language School in Heidelberg. As you might have guessed from my time living in Germany, I also speak some German!
I believe that learning comes from doing. In the same way that I teach my students history by having them do the actual work of historians (such as reading and analyzing primary sources), I teach English by having students use their language skills in hands-on and practical ways (such as by having conversations, reading, and writing together). My approach involves modelling the proper use of the language for students and then striking a balance between accuracy and fluency as students practice what they have learned.
Whether you are an absolute beginner or looking for academic-level tutoring, I want to help you bring your English up to the next level!
