I am so excited to join the community and would love to give you some information about myself.
I started off working with four year olds, preparing them for formal education. We had great fun learning the shapes and sounds of letters and numbers and counting and reciting the alphabet. Socialising with one's peer group is a fundamental part of the learning process and this became my main focus along with having a fun learning experience.
I spent a number of years in Taiwan, working in a private primary school in a small fishing village, named Keelung. I taught grade 2 and grade 6 learners after their main Chinese lessons which took place in the morning. We focussed on learning through games and having fun. This installed a feeling of happiness without anxiety, as the learners became more relaxed and self-assured in their pursuit of mastering a foreign language .
When living in South Africa, I taught English and Counselling at a government high school. The learners were not English with their home language being Zulu, which is one of the ethnic languages widely spoken. Again, I put emphasis on conversational methods of teaching, but at the same time I had to complete a demanding syllabus. Most of my learners succeeded with bursaries for tertiary studies and have become successful in business.
For the last few years I have specialised in working with special needs learners alongside the mainstream teacher within the classroom. This method embraces inclusive education practices, which is my main passion in teaching.
I am so looking forward to this amazing opportunity and contribute to the growth of our upcoming generation.
