I am a native English speaker and my home is the wild and beautiful Scotland! (My Scottish accent is not very strong so I will be clear to understand, don’t worry!)
I am a grade A CELTA qualified teacher with 6-years of experience teaching in Australia and the UK.
I have a degree in English Literature and I am currently doing a Masters in Speech and Language Therapy which is all about language and communication.
My experience is in General English with whole classes and 1-1. I have lots of experience teaching at all levels including: Beginner, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate and Advanced.
I have also supported students to prepare for exams such as CFE, CAE and IELTS.
The structure of the lesson will depend on what you wish to focus on as I am flexible and will adapt the lesson suit your needs. Of course, I want the lessons to be as interesting for you as possible! This means I will incorporate a mixture of task based exercises, learning game and conversation.
I love sharing information about Scottish and British culture and finding out about the culture and interests of you, the student, to bring into lessons.
I can work on vocabulary, grammar, conversation, writing, reading, fluency, pronunciation, preparing for interviews, socialising….and any other area you can think of.
Finally, I think what is really important is teaching you how to speak the language as native English people do – of course grammar is important and I will support you with clear explanation and practice – but also thinking about pronunciation, phrases people use in different social situations (for example, a job interview versus talking to your friends) and bringing you the closest to the way native English speakers talk and write.
I’ve spent time learning French, German and Japanese so I know the difficulty of trying to grasp a new language, but I hope can make lessons enjoyable and support you to become a better English speaker.
Thank you ( or ‘Cheers!’ as we say in Scotland for thank you).
